One time trainee electrician Stuart Pearce has sparked a huge Premier League title debate!

The England legend, who has signed up with Betfred to front the bookie’s Sky Sports TV campaign, believes Manchester United will be champions…and that’s despite him being a former manager of title favourites big-spending  Manchester City.

Pearce is always in demand for his forthright opinions and reckons the £90m record signing of Everton’s Romelu Lukaku by Jose Mourinho from under the noses of his former employers, reigning champions Chelsea, may tip the balance of power back to the north.

With his wealth of experience as a top-flight player and manager, Pearce, aged 55, never sits on the fence.

His no-nonsense opinion delivered in an instantly recognisable voice has great credibility and reflects his vast experience from his much-travelled hard-tackling playing career at Coventry, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, West Ham and City. He picked up 78 England caps in  his glittering career that began when he was plucked out of non-league at Wealdstone where he combined his football with his day job as an apprentice electrician. As a manager he’s had spells at City, Nottingham Forest and England under 21s.

He said: “This is my third campaign with Betfred, the shoot was great fun, I really enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to seeing the ads on TV. As for this season I think it could be Manchester United’s to lose, I think Lukaku was a great signing.”

Head of Betfred marketing Gemma Strath believes Pearce is a perfect fit at the world’s biggest independent bookies where boss Fred Done also has an opinion or two!

She said: “After working with Stuart for the last 12 months we went out to our customers to get their views – and the vast majority loved him. Our punters think Stuart is a great fit for Betfred. He’s a ‘no nonsense’ kind of guy much like Fred and we used this to fuel our initial creative sessions with Zut Media. Our overarching theme was  ‘Nostalgia’ which positioned Stuart as the ‘voice of truth’ in today’s modern game and I am really looking forward to sharing this campaign with our audience”

Working with Zut Media again, Betfred have created 6 new TV Adverts plus a wealth of exclusive content that will be shared across their social media channels and in-house Betfred TV.

Zut Media Producer and Co-Owner Mark Hancock said: “Having Stuart compare ‘old school’ aspects of football with the modern game, then making these comparisons with traditional-versus-modern day betting methods available with Betfred, has made for some very funny Betfred ads.

“The shoot was a lot of fun with a 80’s inspired living rooms set, classic retro footballer perms and an iconic ‘brick’ mobile phone. There are also some cheeky references to Stuart’s famous Italia 90 world cup penalty miss. We believe the six adverts really cut through and will strike a chord with modern day fans looking to have a punt when what promises to be an absolutely fascinating new  season kicks off later this month.”
